THE Revolutionary War is over Philadelphia, April 16, 1783 The year is 1783 and the American revolutionary war is over in the thirteen colonies. The patriots are coming home to their families today after fighting for almost seven years for our freedom against Great Britain. George Washington is one of the many patriots coming home from the war. He is our Commander In Chief of the Continental Army. Some people are asking why we won the war and some people are saying that we won this war because of the many advantages that we had against the British. Some of these advantages were inspired leadership, fighting for our freedom, Demoralized British troops, and help from France. George Washington helped inspire our patriots to believe in themselves and their leader George Washington. Other leaders in the war helped overcome the other odds. The patriots were not just fighting for land and rights to live freely from oppression, but ideas which included things like freedom from corruption and rights that are given to everyone, and god given rights which cannot be taken away. They were fighting for their very lives as well as their freedom. The British troop’s morale was low. They were not familiar with the tactics that the patriots were using and the landscape. Some of the British thought that the colonies were not worth fighting over and that trading with India was a lot more important. The French joined in the war in 1778 on the Patriots’ side. They provided the Americans/patriots to get more firearms, weapons, and supplies. The French navel support proved to be useful in stopping the British from supplying troops and providing support from the sea. These supports eventually lead to the capture of Yorktown. This war was fought on the land belonging to the thirteen colonies. The war lasted for almost seven years it is just three days short of seven years. The war took place between 1775-1783. In 1782 there was talk of peace. The colonies sent John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay to try and work out the peace treaty. It was completed in 1783 ending this war. This war started with the battle of Lexington and concord as the first battle of this war and eventually lead to the first major battle the battle of Bunker Hill. The war ended with the battle of Yorktown, which the British surrendered. This war started because of the fact that the British sent some troops out to collect colonial arms and supplies for themselves. Minutemen fought off the British during the first battle called the battle of Lexington and concord. This battle started the Revolutionary war. This war started with British troops who were sent out to collect colonial arms which belonged to the colonies. The colonies’ minutemen fought back and in which started the American revolutionary war. This war lasted for 6 years, 11 months, and 28 days. The war ended with the treaty of Paris. And in which we as the American people are free. Reported by Jeremy Pigat Mrs. Tyrrell’s class, 7th period
